The Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire celebrates 15 years of history, romance and merriment this November 4-5-6-11-12-13, 2016 at Lake Idamere Park in Tavares, FL! The Renaissance Faire began in 2002 as a way to offer students a hands on learning experience and is now a destination for tens of thousands of history buffs and partygoers from all over central Florida. “Our emphasis has always been on making the Faire a fully immersive educational experience”, says Educational Foundation Executive Director Carman Cullen. The
Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA), which is an international living history group, will recreate a “typical” county village displaying more than fourteen essential occupations within the village of Shrewsbury (pronounced /shrŌź-berry/). Students of all ages are encouraged to visit each of the merchants within the village to learn how life was VERY different, yet oddly quite similar to life today. Crafts, entertainments, and thematic games will allow teachers and students a rare glimpse of the marketplace celebrations and life of the 17th century.

Friday, November 11, 2016 is Veterans Day at the Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire. The Educational Foundation added Veterans Day to the Renaissance Faire Schedule to honor Veterans for their service. Veterans will be admitted free with military ID and enjoy a day of celebrating the noble service men and women of the United States. At 11:11am on the day of the celebration, the Knights of King James’s Guard will pay special tribute to Veterans during a
Knight to Modern Day Knight Ceremony. All Veterans will be invited to the joust field to be recognized for their valor and selfless sacrifice. Other Veterans Day attractions include a King’s USO Veterans show, during which, the Renaissance Faire performers will come together for a special show to entertain Veterans and
their families. Veterans will also have the opportunity to meet the performers. Finally, Veterans are invited to enjoy a pub crawl where they can purchase a beer at each of the 3 pubs on site in a commemorative stone mug.

Children will also be delighted to engage in various games of skill that will challenge both young and old alike including archery, crossbows, sword challenge, knife-toss, as well as a variety of kids’ crafts but beware the pirates in Pirates’ Cove!

Outside of the Village of Shrewsbury, a host of period performers will be on hand to entertain and amuse faire-goers. This year, the Faire is set in 1606 and there are 2 themed weekends. A Celebration of the Bad Boys in History surrounding the anniversary of the foiling of the 1605 “Gunpowder Plot” devised by Guy Fawkes, is the backdrop for the first weekend and Kilts, Celts & Vikings ‘Oh my’, A Celebration of all peoples of the British Isles is the focus of the second weekend.

Back by popular demand will be the opportunity for patrons to participate in a free hand fasting/vow renewal ceremony led by His Majesty King James the First. The ceremony will take place on both Sunday afternoons, November 6th and 13th at 3:00 p.m., on the Faire’s Joust Field. Hand fasting participants will receive a personalized certificate suitable for framing.

To reserve space, please call the Educational Foundation of Lake County at (352) 326-1265 or check in at The House of Three Sisters at faire site. Lads can also sign up at the House of Three Sisters to be knighted daily on the Joust Field at 1:30.

Returning to the entertainment lineup at the Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire this year are “Empty Hats”, “Washing Well Wenches”, “Flight of the Raptor”, “The DaVinci Brothers”, “Emrys Fleet The Rat Catcher”, “Celtic Mayhem”, ”Renegades”, “Rowan & the Rose”, “Lady Ophelia”, “Steele Sisters” and “The Rose Sisters”. New acts this year include “ARRR, Inc”, “McGregor Bagpipes” and “Flipping Fools Aerial Show”. “The Black Velvet Band” will be holding a Pub Crawl on November 5-6-11-12-13 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $30 and include libation at each of the three pubs and a commemorative tankard. “The Roques Theatre” will battle twice a day in the Human Chess match and the Knights of “Noble Cause” will fight to the death in an armored combat joust.

The same sense of coming home felt by the entertainers is also prevalent among the vendors and merchants who set up shop at the Faire. Each year, new artisans and merchants join the returning shopkeepers to offer Faire patrons an ever-changing variety of period attire, jewelry and other wares. Food is another avenue by which the Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire captures the spirit and
authenticity of 17th century England. High School Culinary Departments will be on hand this year to delight faire-goers’ palates with everything from traditional turkey legs to scotch eggs. Beer, wine and mead will be served in Pirates Cove Pub, The Drunk Monk and in “Lord Edwards Tavern” This site will appeal to faire-goers who arrive ready to party like it’s 1599 and will only be accessible to patrons 18 years of age and up. Here, adults will be entertained by bawdier
entertainment acts not typically seen at this otherwise family-friendly event including “The Bawdy Boys”.

The 15th annual Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 5-6- 11-12-13th and from 9:30-3:00 on November 4.
